Holiday reminder

Yes, that time of year is already creeping up.  Fall is upon us and the holidays are just around the corner!  The months preceding the holidays are typically a busy time for the studio and we try very hard to accommodate requests, however, our vendors require time to complete products and we don’t want to disappoint.

Prints - If you are planning on giving prints for relatives or friends, print orders must be received no later than November 1st to avoid possible rush charges.  If we have not already completed the photo shoot, please remember that we need time to process your images for viewing and time for you to select the images you want.

Albums - Some of our bookbinders have cutoff dates in mid-October, which means that our design must be approved and submitted to the bookbinder by then.  If you wish to have an album by the holiday, talk with us now and get your selections together. We have a limited number of openings for album layout and design still available and may be able to squeeze your album in.

Greeting cards -  If you wish to send out our custom holiday cards, and we aren’t using photos from an earlier photo session, we need to schedule a photo shoot soon.  Mini-sessions are available in the Pittsburgh area and are designed to create an image specifically for your greeting card; several mid-week sessions are available and there are limited weekend sessions.

Gift vouchers - Looking for a gift for a loved one - we offer gift vouchers that may be used toward a photo shoot or toward products that we offer.  These may be ordered at any time and a lovely gift card may be sent directly to the recipient or to you to give in person. For the women who are thinking of playing “Sexy Santa” and wish to schedule a “Just for Him” boudoir photo shoot, now is the time so that we can complete the session and have your finished products ready for holiday giving.

We have a winner!

Who gives himself with his alms feeds three,
Himself, his hungering neighbor, and me.”
- The Vision of Sir Launfal, James Russell Lowell

I want to thank all the people who took the time to submit entries for the first contest held on the blog - we enjoyed reading and hearing about you or your loved ones.

The decision was tough, but ultimately, we decided upon Kristy and Steve who are getting married on Friday, October 3, 2008. Each person on my judging panel felt that the volunteer-ism shown by these two embodies the qualities I was hoping to find when I announced this contest. They give of themselves – putting their lives in danger, not expecting financial gain for doing so. I’ve had the chance to talk with Kristy on the phone and I’m truly excited about the opportunity to work with her, Steve, and their family and friends.

Here is an excerpt from the letter I received from Desireé, the person who nominated them:

Steve and Kristy met almost 4 years ago while both working nights and weekends at the same local restaurant. A short time after becoming coworkers, Kristy learned that the reason Steve was taking on the long, late night hours was not because he wanted to, but rather out of necessity. In addition to being a full time college student, Steve also volunteered all of his free time as a fire fighter and EMT for the town fire department. The first time I met Steve, I vividly remember the silver band worn around his wrist. Engraved on it, the name of a fallen fire fighter who lost his life on 9-11. To him, it didn’t matter that he had never met this man, it was an honor to display the name of a hero to anyone he met, at every chance he got. In that moment, I knew I was shaking the hand of a compassionate man and for that, I was thrilled.  During that same year, Steve’s dedication to providing the community countless hours of service earned him the award and title of “Fire Fighter of the Year”. This all came as no surprise to our family, anyone who knows Steve also knows how dedicated he is to his passion.

Kristy, recognizing the difference her boyfriend was making through his unselfish volunteer work, soon decided to join forces with Steve. With the encouragement he gave her, she too soon began giving up numerous weekends of leisure time and dedicated them instead, to unpaid training for the fire department. In Kristy’s first year of service and 2 years after first meeting Steve, she too earned the award and title of “Fire Fighter of the Year”. Other than the departments’ chief, Kristy responded to more calls that any of her fellow volunteers, all the while juggling her full time medical billing career. Watching her commitment for saving lives grow into her own personal passion was again, amazing. So many times I have seen write ups in the paper or on the web and more than once, Kristy and Steve have been on the front lines of life saving rescues.

This now brings us to where these two are today. Steve recently graduated college and accepted a career fire fighting position in his home township of Winslow, NJ. We are so proud of him and his willingness to do what had to be done to finish his degree, but also, always finding time to be with our family. Kristy still holds a full time career as a medical biller as well as continuing to attend biweekly, unpaid training classes on the weekends for the fire department. In addition to Steve’s new position, he also continues to volunteer his free time with Kristy at the fire department where this all started. To help defer some of the impending wedding costs, he also works any available shifts that he can as an EMT. Sometimes when I think about how much these two accomplish in a week, I wonder how they find time to sleep.

Andrea, your work is something I would have wanted for my own wedding and what I KNOW they’d love and appreciate, should they be chosen as winners. In fact, I cannot think of two more unselfish, courageous, deserving people in my life.

To end, I wanted to quote one line of a famous fire fighting movie, Ladder 49. Each time I watch this movie, the same line  makes me think of Kristy and Steve. Everything they know. All that they love. Is what they risk every day.

I thank you for your time and know that even if they aren’t chosen, you’ll have gotten a glimpse into the lives of these 2 special people. To end, their wedding date is October 3rd, 2008. More information is available on their wedding website at: www.steveandkristy.com

Winner to be announced…

Thank you for the great entries for the wedding photography contest!  My panel of judges and I are reading through all the responses we got and are in the process of narrowing everything down.  We will post the results here on Wednesday, so be on the lookout for the winner then.

FREE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY!

One of the things that I’m really excited about doing with the new blog is running contests and promotions from time to time.  For quite a while, I’ve wanted to find a truly special couple to donate my services to.  As a former bride, I know how quickly the wedding day goes by and how easy it is to miss important moments or not remember them until looking through photos later.  I also know what it is to have restrictions that make it difficult to have the type of wedding and photographer that you dream about…so with that in mind, I’ve decided to run a contest.

I’m looking for truly deserving couples who have a great story - ones who may have endured hardships or have overcome obstacles together; not someone who is having an elaborate wedding  in some exotic location (though I’m happy to photograph those, I can’t afford to foot the travel costs associated) - this contest is to give something to a couple who may not otherwise be able to have the moments of their wedding day captured by a professional wedding photographer.

Some simple rules:

  1. The couple must be getting married in fall or winter of 2008 and have both their date and location set.
  2. I must have the date available (obviously!).
  3. Couples that have already booked my services aren’t eligible for the contest (sorry!).
  4. The couple sign my standard wedding day agreement and allow me to use their names and images for promotions such as my blog.
  5. Send a recent photo of the couple that is a maximum of 800 pixels on the long side must be attached (please, no large files) along with a story no more than 1000 words as to why you or who you are nominating is the best couple to win.  Oh, and it will be really helpful to have ways to contact everyone.
  6. Entries must be received via email at contest @ andreakellyphotography.com (eliminate the spaces) no later than May 15, 2008

The winners will receive 7-8 hours of wedding day photography by me, online posting of all their presented images, an 8×8 30-image album, and a DVD of the images when the album is completed.   The stories will be reviewed by me and my panel of judges and the winner will be announced on the blog. So, do something good for someone that deserves it…spread the word, send this link out to family, friends, acquaintances, etc…I want this contest to be a difficult one for us to pick a winner. Oh, and for those of you who don’t qualify for this contest, be sure to come back since there are plans underway to have other assorted contests and give-aways in the coming months.

Contact link at the top of the page

Hi all!  I’m still working on making the blog a better place for everyone to visit, with little enhancements happening along the way.  Earlier today, if you clicked on the “Contact” link, it wasn’t working properly - but everything is set up now and ready for you to use!  If you want to check on my availability or ask any questions, just fill in the information asked for within the form and send it off.

Schedule your “Just For Him” photo shoot

For those of you in the Pittsburgh, PA and Central PA region, I have a few weekend openings for “Just For Him” sessions in April.  Weekend shoots typically carry premium charge, but for the month of April, I am waiving the premium.

If you are in the Las Vegas, NV area sessions are available until April 9th and then starting again in the beginning of May.

Ask me about the opportunity to get your complimentary session when you have three or more friends participate in a “Girl’s Night Out Party”.

Several different session types are available at varying price ranges.  Email me at info @ andreakellyphotography.com (remove the spaces) or call to schedule your appointment soon.  :)

New for 2008

There are some exciting things happening at Andrea Kelly Photography in 2008.  First, of course, is the new blog!  It’s been a bit of a work in progress for a while and I’m happy to finally unveil it.

This year, we will begin offering a few new portrait opportunities as well as great new products, contests, and more - so be on the lookout for those announcements.  So that I don’t feel like I’m just talking to myself, please show some love and post comments.

Kicking off the blog is one of our newest offerings - ”Just For Him” photo shoots. These photo shoots are one of the hottest trends out there right now…fresh, fun, and a little sexy.  I love having the opportunity to do these photo shoots because I believe that sometimes as women, we judge ourselves too harshly and forget to celebrate how beautiful we really are in others eyes.  I believe that these photo shoots really help a woman appreciate her beauty.

In the next few days, look for some posts with samples from some really gorgeous women - Krista, Amber, and Amanda.
